Dartboard Setup – How to Hang a Dartboard
Setting up a Dartboard correctly can be complicated for beginners. You need to take care of many different things while mounting a dartboard, such as the distance from the board to the throw line, the height of the board, background, or wall where it will be mounted, and the position or angle of the board. Dartboard setup is easy, but taking these measurements precisely from a horizontal or diagonal direction is necessary.
You can only hang a dartboard properly if you know the right height, instructions, and measurements. If you follow this guideline entirely, it will be quick and more straightforward. This article will teach you the dimensions of a dartboard, how to set it uprightly, and some additional darts tips.
DartBoard Setup and Measurements
Before starting the dartboard setup, you need to know some related measurements. Please don’t skip this part; it is essential to understand the dimensions. Otherwise, you’ll be in the wrong format and can’t play the game. First, we discuss the height of a dartboard.
Dartboard Height
There are generally two different kinds of dartboards: electronic dartboard and steel tip board. For both, the height measurement is the same as that of international standards. The ideal regulation dartboard height is 5 feet 8 inches/ 1.73 m from the ground to the centre of the bull’s eye. The regulation dartboard refers to the entire board, which is almost 17-3/4″. From my personal experience, I recommend measuring the dartboard’s height first and then moving on to the throwline.
Throw Line Distance (Horizontal)
A throwline is a crossline or area where the player stands while throwing the darts or arrows. Throwline Distance is measured horizontally from the face of the board to the throwline face. The throwline distance is different for steel-tip dartboard or soft-tip dartboard. The steel tip dartboard’s distance is 7 ft 9 ¼ inch or 2.73 m, while the soft tip distance is approximately 8 ft or 2.44 m.
There are different styles of measuring the throw line distance. The most adopted method is to measure it from the dartboard’s face to the throwline front. You can also measure it from the wall and remove the board’s depth from it. It can also be measured using a string dropped on the floor from the board’s face. Either way, you will get similar results if you perform it precisely.
Throwline Distance (Diagonal)
This is another way to measure throw line distance. The throw line distance measured diagonally also differs between the two types of boards. The steel-tip dartboard’s distance is 9 ft 7 3/8 inch or 2.93 m, while the soft-tip distance is approximately 9 ft 9 ½ inch or 2.98 m.
To measure the distance diagonally, you need a person to hold the tape at the centre of the dart’s board (bullseye). Now, you can extend the measuring tape on a diagonal axis towards the throwline. If nobody holds the tape, use a Pro-Line tape for measurement. A dart can hold the Pro-Line tape in place.
How to Hang a Dartboard?
Mounting a Dartboard is all about giving good support to the board. The best way is to hang your board on a stud. It will provide maximum support and backing. Otherwise, you can also mount it on drywall, but you need to afford heavy anchors that deliver maximum support.
When you purchase a dartboard, it comes with a U-shaped standard bracket. I found the metal brackets in sisal dart boards to be the best, most supportive, and most durable. Now, you have to hang it using these brackets. For this purpose, you need basic tools like a screwdriver, a measuring tape, a marker or pencil, and a drill. Below, you get stepwise instructions on how to perform this task like a pro.
Step-By-Step Instructions
1. Mark the exact height from the ground on your wall that is 5 ft. 8 inches or 1.73 m. The bottom of the bracket should be at this point for perfect hanging.
2. Apply the mounting feet behind the boards by using stabilizer screws. A screwdriver will do it. Besides, if your boards have plastic spacers, use a hammer. Please make sure the spacing between them is even in a triangle shape.
3 . After that, drive the middle screw into the hole (pre-drilled) and leave space for mounting the board on the bracket. With the use of mounting screws, install the bracket properly on the wall. Finally, place the board on the bracket, ensuring it is tight and accurate. If your board is wobbling while mounted, then tighten the screws as required.
FAQs
What do you put behind a dartboard?
To protect your wall, it would be best to put something behind a dartboard. Usually, wooden pellets, boards, or corks are used to shield the wall. However, you can also use Styrofoam, carpet, cloth pieces, towels, rope, cardboard, and insulation.
Where should a dartboard be placed?
It would be best to place a dartboard at a height of 1.73 meters from the ground to the bullseye. This is a standard distance that is recognized on an international level. It remains the same for any dartboard.
How much room do you need for a dartboard?
It is suggested that darts be played in a room at least 5 ft wide and 11 ft long. I always suggest a large room because there are many regulations, like dartboard height. So, a spaced room would be convenient for players.
Final Verdict
Hanging a dartboard is a little tricky, but once you know the tips and measurements, it will become easier for you to set up your dartboard quickly. This blog covers all essential points that will help you mount a board correctly. Before playing darts, make sure the board is not leaning or wobbling!
